Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information lab.ascii (the “service”) handles and how.
1. The short version
- There are no accounts, and the service never asks for personal details such as your name or phone number.
- The text you type and the images you add are never uploaded to a server. Every conversion happens inside your browser.
- Advertising (Google AdSense) and analytics may use cookies. You can block them in your browser.
2. Your text and images
The text you type and the images you add are processed only in your device’s memory. They are not sent to or stored on the operator’s servers or anyone else’s. Closing or reloading the tab clears them. The files you download (TXT, PNG) are also created on your device.
A link made with the share button contains the text you typed in its address (for example, ?text=HELLO). Anyone you send the link to receives that text, so do not share a link that contains something you want to keep private.
3. Information the service handles
| Type | What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| Settings on your device | Your choice of light or dark mode | To show the same mode next time | Stored only in your browser (localStorage). Deleted when you clear site data |
| Access logs | IP address, browser type, time of access, requested address | To deliver the site and keep it secure | Recorded automatically by the hosting provider (Cloudflare) and kept under its policy |
| Usage analytics (when analytics is in use) | Pages visited, referrer, browser and device type, approximate location (country and city, estimated from your IP address), a random visitor ID, feature usage (how often copy, save, share, and image upload are used, and the file format), and page load performance | To understand how the service is used and improve it | Stored by the analytics provider under its policy and the operator’s settings |
| Messages you send | Email address, message, and any attachments | To read and answer your message | Deleted within one year after the reply, unless the law requires otherwise |
4. Cookies, advertising, and analytics
Advertising (Google AdSense)
lab.ascii may show Google AdSense ads to cover its running costs.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising at aboutads.info.
- Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services at How Google uses information from partner sites.
Analytics
The service may use an analytics tool (PostHog) to understand how it is used. When it does, a randomly generated ID is stored in your browser’s cookies and local storage to tell visits from the same browser apart. The text you type, the images you add, and the contents of your screen are not collected, and automatic click tracking and session recording are not used.
Blocking cookies: you can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Clearing this site’s data also removes the analytics ID. Every feature keeps working without cookies. You may simply see ads that are not personalized.
5. Sharing and service providers
The operator does not sell or share your personal information. The site relies on the services below, and each handles information under its own privacy policy.
| Provider | Role |
|---|---|
| Cloudflare, Inc. | Hosting, delivery, and security |
| Google LLC | Advertising (Google AdSense) |
| PostHog, Inc. | Usage analytics (when in use) |
6. Your rights
You can ask at any time to access, correct, or delete personal information you have sent (for example, the email address in your message), or to stop it being processed. Use the contact details below and the request will be handled promptly. You can remove the settings and analytics ID stored on your device by clearing this site’s data in your browser.
7. Children
The service does not ask for personal information and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Security
- Your text and images are never sent to a server, so there is nothing of yours on the operator’s side to leak.
- The site is served over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).
- Messages are read only from an access-restricted account.
9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version and its effective date will be posted on this page. This policy is effective as of September 30, 2026.
